A Bad Bite

Today was going well…until we were eating dinner.

I don’t know what it is, but right when I was finishing my meal, I just started feeling sick.

Don’t you hate that?

Especially when it tasted good until the one bite that ruins everything?

Nick and I went to the local Mexican place for dinner and I ordered the veggie fajitas.

All was going well until the last bite. I don’t know what it was, but my stomach just turned and I’ve been feeling pretty gross since then. I haven’t actually gotten sick, but I do not feel good.

We’re home now, watching the football game and trying to get Maggie to calm down and cuddle :)  We’ll see if that happens.

I think a cup of hot tea is in order.

What is the best thing to cure an upset stomach?

I know ginger is supposed to help, as well as peppermint tea.

It’s so strange to be back at work today!

My email was crazy and took me forever to get through, but at least the office is quiet. It’s just me and one other guy in here today – I’m glad at lease one other person was here because I get kinda creeped out when I’m the only person in the office.

With all the emails waiting for me, work went by pretty quickly this morning and I was more than ready for lunch when Nick came over.

I didn’t want to leave any food in the fridge this weekend, so Nick and I both had some of the leftover tuna casserole for lunch today.

I also had the last of the broccoli from last night.

After we ate, we ran some errands around town. And I found a fun thing in my newest Fitness Magazine!

It’s MizFit!!! It’s so fun seeing people you “know” in magazines  🙂

Have you or someone you know ever been in a magazine or on tv?

*Another good bowl game tonight!

Apple of My Oats

Good morning!

No headache to speak of this morning so far :)  I’m happy about that!

Maggie’s been playing like crazy this morning – which means toys are everywhere, shreds of toys are everywhere, and I have lots of little bite marks on my arms, hands, and toes.

It’s a good thing she’s so cute 😉

This morning is the first morning with us both getting ready to leave for work and playing  with her, taking her out, etc. Nick woke up and took her out this morning and fed her breakfast before I got up, and then he played with her while I was in the shower. After I got out, we switched and I played with her while he was getting ready.

That system seems to work pretty well right now, and I’m very thankful that Nick has been getting up early to let her out and feed her in the morning.

I decided on my breakfast last night so I could get ready pretty quickly today.

Apple Cinnamon Butterscotch Oats!

And actually the butterscotch was a last minute addition, but a great one!

  • 1/2 cup oats, 1 cup water, pinch salt
  • cinnamon
  • 1 small apple, diced and microwaved for 1.5 minutes with cinnamon
  • 1 Tbsp cinnamon raisin pb
  • 1 Tbsp butterscotch chips

Apples + butterscotch = A great match and a great breakfast.

One more trip outside with Maggie, and I think we’re ready to go.

What pet(s) do you have?

Worn Out

Hey, hey, a dinner post 🙂

Maggie just laid down and is snuggling Nick on the couch – it’s been a busy day with her.

I got a little laundry done while she was napping this afternoon. When she’s really sleeping, she doesn’t even notice me getting up and moving around the house, which is great – otherwise, she wants to follow me everywhere and we don’t have her (or want her!) going downstairs yet.

After taking her out to the bathroom and sneaking Roxy a little leftover yogurt snack, Nick took Maggie for a short walk.

I heated up some of the leftover tuna casserole from last night and steamed some broccoli for dinner.

Salt + crushed red pepper make everything better.

We finished dinner and played with Maggie for a while before she got sleepy again.

I’ve got one load of laundry to fold (that just finished!) and then…

I’ve got a Christmas treat plate waiting for me  🙂 1 homemade sugar cookie (baked by Nick’s parents, iced by Nick and me) and some of my Mammaw’s fudge. This will probably also involve a cup of hot tea, which has happened the past 3 nights.

*And I have not forgotten about football. Oh no. 😉

I’ve been watching the bowl games, but with Maggie taking over our lives and traveling, I haven’t been remembering to put them up!

So – tonight! 8 pm – should be an interesting game.

Three Course Lunch

Even though she can be completely frustrating one minute, she certainly makes up for it the next.

We’ve walked, played a little, eaten, and napped.

She is good for helping me rest and trying to get rid of this headache.

I needed to eat the rest of my soup from yesterday, so I heated that up while I put together a big salad.

We’re going to Nick’s parents house again this weekend so we can do Christmas with his sister and her husband, so I’m trying to make sure we eat stuff from the fridge this week. This salad helped me use up the last of the lettuce from last night.

  • romaine
  • carrot
  • scallions
  • radish
  • craisins
  • pecans
  • dressing of olive oil, balsamic + dijon

The soup was just as good reheated today. I do like homemade soups better than canned/boxed, but this one was actually pretty good. Not too thin and it had a lot of flavor.

And instead of a chocolate plate (I’m saving that for dessert 🙂 ), I had an Oikos with some apricot conserve + almonds.

Right now, I’m cuddling a sleepy puppy and going to take a break from looking at this screen – my head seems to get worse when I’m looking at the computer :\

Do you like radishes? What do you do with them?

A Tuna First + Time Sucker

Having a puppy is crazy!

Time just slips away and I don’t mind it one bit…except that she keeps me from doing other things like blogging!  🙂

Once Nick got home last night, we took Maggie out to play for a little while – and it would be a lot nicer if it wasn’t freezing here. We’re having 20-30 mph winds and it’s only 30 degrees! Not fun playing-outside weather, for sure.

After playing with her a little while, we fed Maggie and Roxy and headed up to our chiropractor appointment. My back has been doing well lately, actually; I usually need much more work than Nick, but it’s been great the last few trips. Go me!

We got home and I started on a new dinner for us.

Would you believe that last night was my first time to ever have a tuna casserole?

Yup. I’ve never had classic tuna casserole, or any other kind, until last night.

As soon as I saw this Mediterranean Tuna Casserole, I knew I had to try it.

I checked out Betsy’s version and the original and made a few changes of my own – it turned out delicious!

  • I used 1 12 oz. can of fat free evaporated milk and about 1/2 cup 1% in the sauce and only 2 Tbsp or so of flour
  • To start the sauce, I used 1 can of whole tomatoes that I chopped up, the garlic, 1/2 cup diced roasted red peppers, and 1/4 of a red onion

For my first time to ever make or eat a tuna casserole, I think it was pretty great. I love the flavors in the pasta dish and it was so easy. Plus, it would be great with anything you have on hand: olives, other peppers, etc.

After we ate, I had the best intentions to blog, but between playing and cuddling, the night just got away from me.

Great news: Maggie didn’t whine at all when we put her in her kennel to sleep last night. I’m kind of surprised, actually…I’m not sure that will happen every night yet, but it was a move in the right direction.

I’m staying home again today – it seems that this headache shows up right when I get out of bed for some reason. It’s not as a bad as it was yesterday, but it’s still here.

While Nick watched Maggie, I made us some coffee and oatmeal for breakfast. Nick had brown sugar + pecans + chocolate chips and I made banana + reese oats.

  • 1/2 cup oats, 1 cup water, pinch salt
  • 1/2 banana, sliced
  • cinnamon
  • 1 Tbsp peanut buttter
  • 1/2 Tbsp dark chocolate chips

And…since I know everyone wants to see her – here’s Maggie at Nick’s feet this morning.

Based on all these pictures, you might think that all she does is sleep.

But oh, she does so much more  🙂

Biting, chewing, dumping her water bowl out all over the kitchen floor this morning…she is the cutest mess ever.

Soup, Sandwich, Snuggles

Agenda for today:

– Play and constantly use the bathroom for 2 hours

– Take a walk outside to the mailbox

– Eat lunch and treats as fast as you can

– Snuggle

Maggie was out this morning! I snuggled with her for an hour, but she slept in this spot for about 2-3 hours this morning.

I guess all those trips outside tired her out 🙂

We’ve eaten lunch, gone to the bathroom outside a few times, and I walked her down to the mailbox since she’s learning to be on a lead.

She did okay, but the dogs in a neighbor’s fenced-in yard freaked her out a bit. They bark all the time, so I don’t blame her.

Right before our short walk, I fed her lunch in her kennel and made me a quick + comforting meal.

I had some Campbell’s boxed veggie soup that I won in a contest, so I heated up a box (which is 2 1-cup servings) along with about 1/2 cup of the leftover soup from last night’s dinner.

The soup was pretty good! It was a blended veggie soup, as compared to the normal chunky veggie soups, so that was a nice change.

I added some crushed red pepper + garlic + salt on the top and had the soup along with a grilled provolone sandwich on Nature’s Pride whole wheat.

Grilled cheese using olive oil on the bread + in the pan = awesome. I just used my Misto to spray the pan and the bread a little instead of getting out the butter. I love the flavor of the oil on the bread, and it still gets crispy!

And I had to have a little dessert.

  • 2 pieces of my Mammaw’s homemade fudge
  • 2 chocolate covered pretzels that we made
  • a VT chocolate that my sister made us for Christmas 🙂

My head is feeling a little better – the headache isn’t completely gone, but at least my head isn’t throbbing like it was this morning.

Favorite soup + sandwich combo? Or type of fudge?

Manic Maggie Monday

Well, the first night in our house went okay. She cuddled Nick until we went to bed and only whined for about 20-30 minutes in her kennel at bed time.

She woke us up around 4:45 or so this morning so Nick took her outside and then brought her in to cuddle with us this morning until it was breakfast time.

Everything was going well until she needed to poop 4 times again…a few happened in the house before we even knew she needed to go, but she’s gone outside more times than she’s had accidents in the house so that’s a good thing.

She’s such a good puppy! But she is a bathroom machine for most of the morning, and then she wants to play.

Of course, I haven’t been able to capture a good picture of her when she’s in her crazy playing mode – only once she’s calmed down and ready to sleep + cuddle 🙂

This is how she was while we were eating breakfast this morning, snuggled on top of Nick’s feet.

Nick and I took turns watching her and taking showers, and then Nick made both coffee and breakfast  :)

He made some perfect eggs this morning, cooked a little bit of local sausage and I sliced up an apple for us to split.

I’m sitting here with Maggie at my feet, about to drink some coffee and lay down.

I’ve had a migraine off and on for the past 3-4 days, and my head was throbbing again when I woke up this morning so I’m not working today. Just looking at the computer long enough to do this post is making my head hurt even worse.

I’m hoping the coffee will help, but we’ll see!

It seems like Christmas went by so quickly! I feel like this weekend just flew by, as well, and I’m not ready for the holiday season to be over just yet.

Families Rule…

…puppies drool. And howl and whine and pee and bite and slobber and cuddle. A lot. 🙂

My family came up yesterday and stayed the night so we could do Christmas with them. I know I didn’t get pictures of everything and I have no pictures from dinner at all – but it was tons of fun.

Spending time with my parents, sister, Mammaw, Nick, my other parents, and some friends, and playing with the new puppy just took over everything.

And I loved every minute.

We’re about to make some lunch and probably get on the road in a few hours to get home with our new puppy and get settled in.

See you from home!

*I have some sourdough starter to bring home and am very excited about it! We’ve had homemade sourdough biscuits, bread and pancakes this weekend and they’ve all been amazing.

Merry Christmas!

From our sleepy family, to yours.

Maggie wasn’t too bad last night, but she whined for about half an hour before Nick or I got to sleep. She slept for a few hours, and then woke us up again around 2:30 this morning, so Nick took her out to use the bathroom.

She did good, but never really went back to sleep after that.

After 4 poops, she was ready for breakfast 🙂 She is a bundle of energy in the morning…it is going to be hard leaving her at home when we have to go to work.

We ate breakfast – bacon, eggs, homemade sourdough biscuits, and jam + tea and then opened presents. It was a fun time with Harley cuddling Cindy on the couch and Maggie cuddling with Nick in the chair.

After showering and giving both dogs a bath, Nick and I took some little naps with the dogs and Bob decided to take pictures to prove it.

We just finished eating lunch + making tons of sugar cookies and fudge!

We all had turkey sandwiches with the leftover turkey from last night’s dinner and some Martin’s bbq chips – the best bbq chips ever.

I had a sugar cookie star and am now watching the dogs play and Nick’s parents take a nap.

Not sure what’s on the agenda for the rest of the day – probably lots of cookie eating, cutting into that fudge soon, and dinner after the sugar coma 🙂

Merry Christmas!!! I hope today is filled with joy and love and that the giving spirit continues on into the new year.
