Favorite Things

Woohoo, it’s Friday!!!

You know what that means  🙂  Jeans at work and the start of the weekend!

I should have known it was too hot for oatmeal, but I tried it anyways.


My trick to being able to eat it if I’m already hot in the morning is to use frozen berries. They cool down the oatmeal just enough, and the hot oatmeal thaws the berries at the same time.

Today, my bowl had:

  • 1/2 cup oats, 1  cup water, pinch salt
  • cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup or so frozen mixed berries, stirred in at end
  • handful fresh raspberries + blackberries
  • 1 Tbsp sliced almonds


No matter the weather, oatmeal will always be one of my favorite breakfasts.

I like having breakfast waiting for me in the morning.

Especially when I crash on the couch and sleep amazingly all night long – I think that tart put me in a little sugar coma. I couldn’t even keep my eyes open to watch Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives at 10! I don’t always remember to prep stuff for breakfast at night, but it does make the mornings easier and a bit less rushed.


Last night, I mixed up a serving of my MixMyGranolamuesli plus a little extra regular oats with a cup of milk for Nick and I to have this morning. After sitting and soaking in the milk, I took it out this morning and stirred in one container of Oikos plain yogurt, then split the mix between the two of us.


I love that the milk softens the oats just enough to not feel raw anymore – they  have such a great, almost fluffy texture.


I topped mine with strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, slivered almonds and some cinnamon.

I thought I would be freezing eating this, but it didn’t make me as cold as having a smoothie in the morning. Maybe this and the breakfast cookie will be my go-to cold breakfasts.

Shot to the Arm

Good morning! Did you watch LOST? Are you now more LOST than ever?  🙂 It was a really good episode, but I am super tired from staying up and watching it and I hated the way they ended it – I hate having to wait months to see what’s going to happen next.

Nick and I have to go in and get the rest of the shots we need for our trip to Honduras this morning, so we had a little more time to make breakfast today. I made me some eggs and oatbran

I think this is the best batch of strawberries we’ve had yet! I wish we had a place around here to pick our own, but I don’t think there’s one for strawberries. I hope we can remember to go pick our own blueberries though.

I also had a cup of milk in one of my favorite Hokie cups

Are you okay about getting shots?

I hate them…I psych myself out so bad and get all nervous and anxious. Blech…I’m not looking forward to getting these, but at least they are usually over quick.

The birds are chirping.

The trains are chugging.

The chickens are clucking. What – no chickens across the street from you?  🙂

For some reason I woke up and got out of bed at 5 am this morning. I am usually the queen of the snooze button, so I’m not sure why I got up so early. It was nice, though. I took my shower, sat and read/thought about/prayed about our Honduras trip this summer, finished packing my lunch, made breakfast and just read through the “name that dish” suggestions, which was fun and funny!

I made a big bowl of oatbran this morning – I hadn’t had it this way in a while since I’ve been on my “eggs and oatbran” kick but I wanted a big glob of almond butter, so that’s what I had.


  • 1/3 cup oatbran, 1 cup water, pinch salt
  • 1/2 banana, sliced
  • 3 strawberries, 3 blackberries
  • cinnamon
  • 1 big ole’ Tbsp crunchy almond butter


I was also really wanting some chocolate milk this morning, so I had a cup of milk with a Tbsp of nesquik stirred in.



Winner time!

All the recipe name suggestions were great, but I’m going to have to go with….


i would name it:

“Gimme That Big Fat Zucchini (That’s What She Said!)”

A Berry Good Breakfast

Good morning!

It feels like it should be later than Tuesday, right? Yesterday seemed like the longest day at work – I hope today goes by faster.


Breakfast today really makes me want spring and summer to hurry up already!


Berry Bananza Oatmeal



  • 1/2 cup oats, 1 cup water, pinch salt
  • 1/2 banana, sliced
  • 3 big strawberries
  • palmful blueberries and raspberries
  • 2 Tbsp walnuts
  • cinnamon!




Since my stomach was growling all morning, I decided to have a hard boiled egg for some extra protein with breakfast.



And a cup of milk

Just a heads up: I’m heading out after breakfast, and will be at my in-laws this weekend. I will have my computer and camera, but I don’t know how much I’ll actually blog. We have a lot of work (and shopping!) to do  🙂 


Breakfast needed to be something easy and something that would hold me for a few hours.

Friday for Me!

I won’t be at work tomorrow because of my secret appointment that I have not mentioned yet, so today is my Friday. Well, almost like Friday but without the jeans.

Do you ever just wake up and feel hollow because you’re so hungry? I just felt like I had nothing in me at all, and my tummy was yelling at me to feed it! Of course, I listened.

I had another bowl of Berry Bananaza


  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1 cup water
  • pinch salt
  • 1/2 banana, sliced
  • 4 strawberries, sliced
  • palmful of blueberries and raspberries
  • cinnamon
  • 1 Tbsp sliced almonds


And instead of just a cup of skim milk, I had a monster glass of chocolate milk  🙂


Sometimes you just need chocolate milk, and today was one of those days. And YES, I like my chocolate milk very chocolat-y.

I had a cup of coffee at work – I usually have this every day, but I usually use the same mug so I don’t take a picture of it every day.



Lunch today is….leftovers!  Surprised?  No?  🙂

Obviously I do!  I mainly just don’t want to waste food, but I don’t want to make a meal every single night, either. Plus, I think leftovers make some of the best lunches and I can freeze them for later when we’re running low on everything else.

Buzzin’ for Food

Did you notice anything new?

No…not a new haircut.

Not a new shirt, sadly.

I’m now a Featured Publisher for FoodBuzz!!!  I am so excited about this – I love FoodBuzz! I love that you can find tons of stuff on their site just about food and other foodies and restaurants…it’s like my dream come true.


Breakfast today was good, as usual.

I try to make my eggs look good in the pictures….it’s hard since the eggs are white, on top of white grits, in a white bowl….


At least they taste good  🙂

I’m so glad today is humpday already! I only work one more day this week, so today is actually my Thursday! I have something kind of exciting on Friday (which I won’t explain yet) but I’m super excited and nervous and ready for it be here already!

There may also be a special blogger something happening on Friday that I am even MORE excited about!!! But you’ll have to wait to find out  🙂

Lunch today is the last of my black bean burgers with some steamed broccoli  and the last of my corn soup. Sad to see it go, but it sure does hold me over well!



Plus an apple to round out my meal.

Roy G. Biv

Have you met Roy G. Biv?

I think I’ve filled every spot (or close to it) and I have even eaten dinner yet!

I have to get my Biv colors in early – other wise, it sometimes doesn’t happen.

So, I bring you my Berry Bananza!


This bowl was full of texture, flavor, and antioxidants!

  • 1/2 cup oats

I had to run some errands at lunch (aka, go buy chocolate!), and am now sitting at my desk, blogging, and eating lunch.
