Remember my revamp of my Snickers Smoothie?

I’ve got good news!

While I didn’t win a trip to San Fran to attend the Foodbuzz Festival this year, my smoothie was one of 3 chosen that will be sampled at the Tasting Pavilion this year!!!

Wahoo! Smile

I’m really sad I can’t go this year and won’t be able to meet more bloggers and hang out with friends, but it is fun knowing that people can taste my smoothie!

I can’t wait to see all the posts about the festival this weekend. I had such a great time last year, and I bet it will be even better this weekend.

Two questions!

– Are YOU going to Foodbuzz this weekend?

– What’s YOUR all time favorite smoothie combination? It can be anything! Healthy smoothie, a milkshake, whatever. Just make it your favorite. I’m always looking for new smoothie ideas.

Happy Saturday! I can’t believe it’s already 5:30 – today has been a lot of fun, but it’s gone by too fast!

Nick ended up going into the lab this morning so work on some stuff while I got groceries, so I took breakfast on the run with me.

Earlier this week, I ordered some sample packs from Amazing Grass to try out after seeing so many good reviews. I used this chocolate infusion meal packet with 1 cup of almond milk and about 1/2 cup of frozen berries.

I’m not sure if it was the frozen berries or the combo of the berries + the packet, but it was much sweeter / tarter than I thought it would be. The cocoa flavor was really good, but I kind of wish I would have tried it with banana instead of berries. It just wasn’t what I expected – but still good!

I also took some hard boiled eggs with me.

I dropped Nick off at his building and got started on my list of places:

  • WW to weigh in for the month
  • Walmart for soap, Nick’s cereal (way cheaper than at Kroger) and skittles for his movie treat
  • Farmer’s market for kale, rainbow chard, mixed greens, lettuce, peaches, nectarines, squash, zucchini – yum! I can’t wait to use all of these.
  • Kroger for the rest of my groceries
  • library, where I didn’t find anything….

After I got all the groceries, I went back and picked Nick up and we stopped to get a quick lunch to take home and eat before heading out for the movie.

We stopped by The Easy Chair, a coffee shop here, that makes pretty good sandwiches. I really wanted their hummus + veggie but they didn’t have hummus! So I got the garden burger on fresh honey wheat bread with lettuce, tomato, red onion, and their spicy mustard.

I added a few cherries when we got home and scarfed this down so we could get back to town.

Oh, plus some unsweetened blueberry tea!

They always have a few flavors of iced unsweetened tea on hand – that and their cookies are why we go most of the time  🙂

As soon as I finished eating, we got back in the car and drove to the movie theatre to see….

Julie & Julia! I loved it! I haven’t read the book, but I loved this movie. It was so funny and Meryl Streep did such an amazing job playing Julia Child. Plus, it’s about food, cooking + blogging – what could be better?

I took this snack in with me for the movie

and I apparently shouldn’t eat chocolate in dark places. I came out with melted chocolate on my leg, shorts AND shirt! I’m a mess.

This weekend is also Steppin’ Out, a big downtown festival in Blacksburg with tons of vendors, artists, crafts, bands, food…all kinds of stuff. We always go look for cool presents for our family, so we went and walked around for a while after the movie got out.

I ended up getting this juice – fresh squeezed oj with pineapple and cranberry – it was so hot and muggy out there!

We picked up a few gifts for people and then headed back home.

Now I’ve got a load of laundry going and Nick’s taking a quick nap on the couch.

I think we’re grilling for dinner tonight but I haven’t decided on the sides yet.

I also have to make a dish or 2 for a potluck tomorrow  – I better get moving!

Have you seen or read Julie & Julia?

Reese’s in a Cup

Sounds good, right? I’ll get to that in a minute  🙂

Our weather has turned out better than I expected today! It’s not raining, but it is muggy which is putting a damper on my cookie-baking plans. I want to make my mom’s famous cookies, but they will not set up unless the weather is just right, so I’m hoping some of the mugginess heads outta here in a couple hours.

I had to go pick up a few last things from the store after church – I’m glad I don’t normally get all my groceries on Sunday afternoon. The store was packed today – I like to go when there isn’t anyone else in the store except for the workers. I don’t have to fight with people in the aisles, wait to get around people, or wait in long lines to checkout.

After maneuvering my way out of Kroger, I headed home and put together a quick lunch.

Nick and I split the last of the “bbq” I made with the pork loin, and I cooked up some fresh corn from the market and some green beans.

This corn was so good – perfectly sweet and tender. When you have corn this fresh and ripe, there’s no need for anything other than a little salt + pepper. Perfect!

And then….we napped  🙂  I like Sunday afternoon naps. It’s one of my favorite things about the weekend – we take an hour or so to just rest after whatever else we’ve done over the weekend and gives us a break from whatever we’re doing on Sunday, too.

Of course, napping makes me hungry, too. I don’t know what it is! It’s like sleeping burns off my lunch and then I need a snack.

Enter Reese’s In A Cup.

I made one my best smoothies yet!

  • 1 cup skim milk
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla pudding powder
  • 1/2 Tbsp PB2
  • 1 tsp cocoa powder
  • 5 ice cubes

I’m not a big fan of PB2 mixed up as actual peanut butter to use on bread, etc, but I LOVE it in smoothies and sauces and other recipes.

Blend it up and top with a little Hershey’s syrup – this tastes like a reese cup with a little hint of banana. I think the vanilla pudding powder was the perfect addition. Since the pudding powder is sweet and the cocoa powder is not, this was just sweet enough.

I’ve still got a bunch of stuff to do, so I guess I better get of my butt and get moving  🙂

See you for a fun dinner! I’m excited – and cross your fingers for good cookie weather!

Man, lunch hour flew by today – this has to be quick!

I had some more of the cottage casserole leftovers + green beans + smoked turkey for lunch

Thank goodness for leftovers!

Then Nick and I went to get a cool smoothie to have after lunch. We went to Elderberry’s and we both got the “Morgan’s Strawberry” – strawberry juice, raspberry sherbet, strawberries.

I got the kiddie size, which is just enough. I drank almost all of this before we got back -oops!

Back to work for me!

If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?

Busy Bee

Today has just flown by! I only worked until lunch time since I had some more doctors appointments this afternoon – everything’s good! And, I think I’m done with doctors for a while  🙂

Our bluegrass-playing friends were out again at lunch, we so we sat outside and listened to them play while we were eating. I don’t know where this nice weather is coming from, but I hope it sticks around! The last couple of days have been so nice.

I had the last 2 pepper halves and last of the ww orzo filling, plus extra spinach and the last of the roasted broccoli

Plus some pineapple and cantaloupe, my obsession for the week…and maybe the weekend.

My appointments all went well, but I was starving after running around so much! I made this smoothie last night and saved half for today since I couldn’t drink it all last night.

1 packet of WW chocolate smoothie mix, 1 cup milk, 1 banana, 1 tsp pb2 and a sprinkling of the best almond butter granola I’ve ever had, courtesy of a sweet friend  🙂

Nick and I went ahead and went grocery shopping before coming home since this weekend is going to be a little crazy, and I’m glad we did. The grocery store is basically empty before people get out of work!

I’m off to help Nick get stuff ready to grill for tonight, make a salad, and get a dessert in the oven. Then I’ve got to do some laundry and pack tonight – I have a girls night planned for tomorrow and I’m super excited  🙂

See you after dinner!

Happy humpday! I’m so glad this week is halfway over.  My neck is feeling a little bit better – it still hurts pretty bad to bend my neck back to wash my hair, but I can’t complain too much.

Breakfast today went back to eggs – I knew I couldn’t stay away for long!

I made 2 over easy eggs on some oatbran cooked with just water + salt.

Plus a bowl of fruit – these berries we’ve been getting lately have been awesome! I can’t wait to get local ones from the farmer’s market.

The most exciting part of my morning will be this:

I’m trying Jay Robb for the first time! I blended 1/2 of my chocolate packet with some cold coffee and milk – I guess it’s a Jay Robb-uccino? I can’t wait!

Today is also Staff Appreciation Day at work, which means we get 10 -3 out of the office and they have some activities, tours, etc. I’m not sure what all will be going on, but I hope it’s fun!

We’re also bringing Roxy in to see a doctor at the school today – one of her eyes is cloudy and we’re not sure what’s wrong with it. It’s been like that for a few days and doesn’t seem to be getting worse, but it’s not getting better either.  Have your pets ever had this happen?
